Each scan is an effort to fully capture phenomena, compositions, situations, and subjects for as long as they last, stretch, or until they simply dissipate. Yet, in this pursuit - the pursuit of Prolongance, I often confront the inherent limitations of both technology and technique. Missteps occur, and scans falter under the strain of trying to render the fleeting, revealing the tension between the desire to capture the entirety and the medium’s inherent resistance to being stretched beyond its conventional capabilities.Rather than viewing these challenges as failures, I embrace them as integral to my creative process. Each misstep prompts a reassessment, leading to adjustments, repetitions, and the invention of new methods. This iterative approach is key to my work, where the interplay of unconventional photographic dynamics, such as shifting vantage points, extended exposures, and layered compositions, coaxes the medium into new territory. My work navigates the fine line between control and surrender, of what can be captured and what inevitably slips away. The scans become visual documents of these struggles, where each piece reflects a relentless drive to push past the medium’s constraints. In doing so, I invite viewers to engage with the idea that some aspects of our reality may always remain beyond our grasp or only partially seen.Ultimately, my approach redefines what it means to capture a moment and to consider the ways in which art can simultaneously reveal and obscure the ephemeral nature of our experiences. |
