Shadow Consort

Presence is both unfolding alongside and intertwined with the shadows cast by lampposts, utility lines, and crosswalks, commonplace objects that populate our everyday journeys. Moving through the urban landscape, the juxtaposition of shadows cast by the moving figure and the static, yet shifting, shadows of the urban fixtures invites viewers to reflect on the transient nature of presence and the often-overlooked details of our daily surroundings.

Shadow Consort extends the themes explored in my other work that use continuous vantage point perspective to question our perception of space and time and focus on the interplay between the body and its environment. However, Shadow Consort emphasizes the silent companionship we share with the inanimate objects that frame our daily lives. Shadows act as consorts, ephemeral companions that offer a subtle form of caretaking, grounding us in the world around us. By drawing attention to these relationships, the series encourages viewers to ponder themes of presence, companionship, and support, as well as caretaking, prompting a deeper reflection on how we interact with the world at large.
